Sorry I havent' updated for awhile, I've been terribly busy. School for me, school for B-man, the baby, packing, moving, unpacking. My first quarter of classes are done and I got an A. I'm already on my second week of my second quarter and already I've drawn a Picasso...teehee, we had to draw it while looking at it upside down. It came out remarkable well, but damn do I still hate Picasso. I've also done second self-portrait. I'm very happy with the way things are going in school. The bad news is that we were supposed to come back to NC this weekend for a friends' pre-deployment party and the wheel bearing went out on the car, so we had to nix the trip. When we moved into our apartment, we had to find a new home for our dog as well. The landlord wouldn't allow dogs or cats, but we got to keep the caged animals. Anyway, I'm off to draw my stove or some other cubic object. And to do some more thumbnails for a book I'm working on for [livejournal.com profile] thedevildet .

Alright, you know it's time to quit when you have wild turkey thrown at you and you're nowhere near a bar. The other day we were driving the back roads to Morgantown and I was talking with Rob, not paying attention to what was going on. All of a sudden there's a fucking turkey flying at my window. I thought the damned thing was going to hit the car and jumped. And may I stress that I have never seen a turkey that wasn't dressed and on a table before. Rob is still laughing about that one. On the same road coming back he asked what I'd do if another turkey flew at me. I said "I'm going to go home, hide under my pillow and cry. And by go home I mean drive my happy ass back to NC." It honestly looked like the field was booby-trapped or something. When the car hit a certain spot in the road, the turkey was launched by catapult or something, cause one minute it wasn't there and the next it's playing peek-a-boo in my window.

Oh, and tonight I played the lottery for the first time in my life ever and
I WON!!!

Okay, so it was only $5, but I still won.

And I swear Osage, WV is the land that time forgot. Okay, we've all seen movies where people go into a town and they can never leave because of some weird space/time continuum trick...it's like that.

Jason, aka Swag aka Spider, was one of the first people that I met when I moved to Fayetteville. Albeit a very misunderstood meeting, but a lasting one. He jumped in my face to defend his, at the time fiancee, after the incident was cleared up, we all sat down and chilled. He and Alanna are/were the perfect couple. A relationship that withstood many ups and downs, survived the gossipy rumor mill and the army's bullshit. There were times that we would just sit at the Coffee Scene and bullshit about random inane things, there were barfights over broken windshields and there were joyful celebrations of the 4th of July by the pool. Watching him light sparklers for the kids and knowing that some day he and Alanna would make great parents.
There are soldiers that die everyday, but you never know the reality of war until it's someone you are close to. Swag was an honest man to the point of being brutal with the truth. It was something that you grew to love about him. At the same time, he was a caring man and had a wonderful sense of humor. These feeble words can't even begin to convey how much he will be missed. Alanna, my heart goes out to you. Be strong for you, and stand for Jason. He's a fallen hero indeed.

The long story )

Okay, sorry I haven't been able to call everyone, but at 0809 17-Feb-07 Tristan Conner was born. He weighed 7 lbs 11oz and was 21 inches long. He's got the deepest blue eyes I have ever seen and light brown hair. Labor went well, didn't require any stitches. No epidural, the IV drugs they'd given me had started wearing off before the actual pushing began, so I guess that's as close to natural child birth that I'm going to get. They discharged us from the hospital around 1800 today.
Bringing home the new baby has driven the dog absolutely bonkers and the sugar gliders seem to think that the crying over the baby monitor sounds like the crabbing of other sugar gliders. B-man is now a big brother. He was singing to Tristan on the weigh home from the hospital trying to get him to stop crying. It was too cute. Anyway, it's late and I need sleep...hospital food takes it out you. LOL!

The other day when we brought home the sugar gliders, Rob commented that they reminded him of little vampires. I can see this, sometimes when they move, they have that awkwardness of a bat when it climbs. That, and the stripe that starts at their face looks like a little widow's peak. We decided to have some bonding time tonight with one of the gliders, whichever one we could catch, basically. Well, Rob caught the Godfather. I decided to try the bonding time with him anyway. He wasn't interested in the treats or being petted, he poked his head out of the bag, bit my hand and then jumped on my shirt and started climbing toward my face. This startled me a bit, but he walked around to my shoulder and bit my neck. And for the record, yes, that fucking hurts. It's hard not to flinch when that happens. So, I guess The Don is working towards turning me into Renfield. LOL!
Rob decided to put The Don back and try for one of the smaller gliders. I sat for the better part of an hour with this glider in the bag. Not once did it bite me. I fed it a grape and petted it. Rob decided to turn the main light out, then it was catch the glider. It is amuzing to see one jump of a person and cling to a wall hanging.

*giddy happy joyness* I have 4 new pets. A couple on freecycle is having to PCS (aka move) and they couldn't take these wonderful little marsupials with them. So I am now the proud owner of sugar gliders. I got the big cage, the travel cage, all the bedding and toys, food and bonding bags, treats, etc. FOR FREE!!!! W00T!

Okay, we were able to get an accurate count. We have 8 pinkies. Which is amazing to me because I can't spacially comprehend how all eight of those little mice were inside her. She didn't look like THAT much of a tennis ball.

I posted last year that we had gotten a famcy mouse and named him Wicket. We bought him just before Christmas and he seemed to be fine for awhile, but then he got really lethargic. We thought he may have been getting sick, but mice are very social creatures. So we went to another pet store and bought two more mice to keep him company. We noticed that our grey mouse (the one B-man dubbed "Junifur") started to look like a furry tennis ball with tiny arms glued to her. Well, we went to my doctors appointment today to see if Tristan was doing well, which he is. The doctor said that he had already turned and that he was showing off for the heart monitor...getting closer to it and moving around franticaly. He still gets the hiccups more than anyone I know, myself included. So, we come home and set about our usual lives. I heard a whole lot of squeaking coming from the mouse cage. We now have at least 6 pinkies. They are squirming too much for me to get an accurate count. B-man and I agree that the little hairless blue-eyed mice are really cute, but Rob disagrees. We've separated the cages so that Wicket won't eat any of them.
Blair called me and told me that Andrea had her baby the other day, via C-section since labor stalled. Another 9 pound baby, doesn't bode well for me. Even my mouse had her babies before I did. Eh, but we're adding more names to the pool everyday. Beth is expecting and so is my cousin's wife. I'm just the only one left that looks like they're smuggling basketballs. LOL!

We were out shopping today and had to go by PetSmart to pick up some more dogfood for Rivet. We were looking around at all the fish, frogs, crabs, lizards...I saw something that I would like, but have to wait until maybe I get my tax returns. They have two chinchillas. I will have to wait on those because they do the best when they are in pairs. So, we picked up Wicket. Wicket is a crazy looking fancy mouse. The only thing that makes him a "fancy" mouse is the fact that he wasn't bred to be fed to snakes. We picked up a cage that has a removable mouse ball attached to it, the cedar shavings, food and treats, and a little edible log/house for him. B-man likes the mouse, but is used to Rivet somewhat comprehending what he says. He keeps trying to call the mouse and get him to come to him.

Okay, so I got my results from the GTT today. I do not have gestational diabetes, all my readings were normal. So WOOHOO to that. And because I had the day off and several people have asked about this....I went through and made registries. I did a couple of them trying to keep convenience in mind and the fact that friends and family are scattered everywhere.

Babies R Us
Registry #33908156

Target

Tristan's due date is 14Feb07. And it seems that almost everyone around me is hoping for a hit or miss by two or three days because that's their birthday. Rob is still convinced that Tristan is going to steal his birthday (the 13th) At any rate, it makes me the odd man out in my family . I'll be the only one not celebrating their birthday in Feb.

Horror of Horrors....3 hours at Womack today. They wanted me to come back in for the 3 hour GTT...that's (Glucose Torture Test). They poke you and take your blood, then give you this horrid glucose drink that tastes like flat orange soda. Then you have to come back every hour for the next 3 hours...I feel like a human pin cushion. Rob was joking that I was going to look like a heroin addict before the day was over. Two draws from each arm. I should be able to call tomorrow for the results. They are testing me for gestational diabetes. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything until the test was over. By the time I was there for the last draw, I felt like I was going to pass out. I certainly hope that it was the lack of food and not that I've become diabetic. Anyway, I'll hopefully find out tomorrow.
